Got one sitting right next to me. It's the second one I've bought. First was sold with a complete system a couple weeks ago and I bought this one on sale to go with another build I have going. Picture quality is good and my customer that has it uses it for business. She really likes it and is the envy of the office cuz everyone else is using crt's. Don't know about it's gaming capability but it looked fine when running 3DMark on my OC machine. Speakers are tinny sounding but that's to be expected in a package this small. Well worth the money in my opinion.

i'm not really looking for the speakers but rather image quality. i know my NEC multisync 77f i have right now is pretty dark when i play some games and i really have to turn gamma high and even then sometimes things are dark. is this monitor decently bright?

Yes, too bright in fact. I've turned the brightness down to 70 from the default 100 setting.

I'm just looking at its reponse time and it's also very impressive...16ns response time. That should give minimal or no ghosting. I'd say you're pretty safe for gaming there.

By that time, I'd say that the 17 inch monitors in general will go down in price...take a look at the Samsung 17" 712N - it's 420 USD but 330 USD now

Does NY have CompUSAs? Take a look there...it's on a very nice rebate with 12ns response time - it's really nice. I have one myself.

I doubt it. It's been down at that price for a while and unlikely that it will be 120+ USD off as to make it 280 USD. I would go ahead an purchase the one on Newegg if that's the case.
