How do I install Midi Waveset?
Due to major problem had to reformat my HD. The OS is win98se and the sound card is SB PCI64 ver4. I have everything working again except I am unable to play midi's. I get this notice on boot, "The Creative Sound Blaster PCI64 driver cannot load MIDI Waveset. MIDI Playback has been disabled."
I have the waveset file for the PCI64 but cannot figure out how to install it. (The file is, "eapci2m.ecw". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found the answer
When I did not receive an answer I went back to Creative Labs to see if I could find help there. I joined their forum and posted the same question. The following message is the reply I received. I am posting it here so that if others should run into this problem they will have some idea of where to start.
Error - Can not load MIDI Wavesets, MIDI Playback has been disabled. This error results from installing the updated driver file only without installing the waveset files. The Wavesets files are shipped with the original installation CD-ROM disk. They are also available for download at our driver support site. While at the site select PCI 128. For the Operating System, select Windows 98/98SE, regardless of your current Operating System. Download either the 2MB, 4 MB, or both wavesets. To load the wavesets, follow the steps below. Download and unzip if required and copy the extracted file to your C:\Windows\System directory Select - Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager Double click Sound, Video and Game Controllers Double click on your soundcard entry and select - Properties - Settings - Load Waveset Click on Browse and select C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM Select the a waveset file to load, for example, eapci2m.ecw, or eapci4m.ecw. Click on Apply Restart your system. If the difficulty persists, we recommend that you completely uninstall your PCI 64 or PCI 128 card, then reinstall it: Select Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager - Sound Video and Game Controllers Remove all entries for the PCI 128 or PCI64. Select Start - Find - Files or Folders and type eapci *.* delete all entries of this file Type *.ecw and delete all entries of this file Type sndscape*.* and delete all entries of this file Select Start- Shutdown and choose to restart your PC. Windows will auto detect the PCI 128 card, cancel the auto install when it appears Using the installation CD-ROM supplied with the PCI 128, run the install wizard and follow the on-screen instructions. |
