BFG NVidia GeForce 6800 GT heat issue
I recently upgraded from an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB to the BFG NVidia GeForce 6800 GT. I was running it at stock speeds (370/1000) for the first two days with temps between 55C idle to 70C load. Just yesterday, I removed the fan and heatsink and applied some good ol' Arctic Silver 5 (applying only a small amount and spreading it evenly so that it was almost transparent). I let my computer detect the optimal speeds at which I would be able to run the video card and it returned the speeds of 406/1050. Well, I didn't want to crank it too high...so I set it to 400/1000. After a day of usage, I am starting to see my temps fluctuate between 60C idle to 80C full load. This is insanely high for me. Is the 6800 GT's stock HSF just weak or is this card just naturally hot?
One more thing: can anyone recommend me the best...and I do mean the BEST HSF for my video card (without going towards watercooling). |

no... i think Geforce6800Gts run that hot normall OCed. ur fine. reviewers have tested OCing the BFG till it ran at 90C and it was still "stable".
edit- i'll take a page out of kramm's book with this statement. you are running ur card at Geforce6800 ultra+ speeds. take a look at the heatsink's size on the 6800ultra. compare to the 6800GT
