Onboard Sound

Asus P4C800-E Deluxe is the mobo, does anyone else have experience with this model, or similar models, and could verify this? My onboard sound has incredibly low volume limits.. is this normal? For lower quality media i need to max out all volume controls on everything and stay close to the speakers to hear. The speakers work fine, on my old computer they could get much louder than i needed. The only thing i can think of is i don't remember doing any connections on the motherboard when putting this PC together in relation to sound.. i have the latest driver i believe. Any ideas, or alternate methods to enhance volume?

Bet you are using unpowered speakers. You need a good set of speakers with their own power and external volume control to take advantage of the onboard sound.

How would it be inferior to a much much older onboard sound that worked so much better though, i don't understand that... they were unpowered 8 years ago, and worked very powerfully.

Many old PC speakers were unpowered and therefore sound cards had small amplifiers on them. Today, not even a high end sound card will power your unpowered speakers. Modern PC's put out nothing more than a line level output. You could get much better sound with even a $30 set of speakers.
