ATI Control Panel... SmartGart?
MY system specs are below.
When I go to the ATI control panel for my 9800SE, the SmartGart tab has a slider for the AGP speed. The slider has values for 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, and Off. For some reason, SmartGart has assigned me to "Off." If I change it to 8x, Smartgart prompts me to restart and then returns the setting to "off" automatically. Whats going on here? Thanks

Its the Dark Side!

Check your bios to see if your AGP port is set to run at 8x. if this is not true on your setup, then smartgart will, naturally, be unable to set the AGP to that level.

hi there, my pc is doing EXACTLY the same thing! I have checked the bios and it is set to 8xagp. Are there any other settings in the bios which need to be changed? I noticed there was a menu above the agp speed one, I think it was to do with graphics card memory? I set mine to 128mb, dont know if this is correct. But this has been bugging me for weeks! No matter what i do i can not get it stay at 8x in smartgart, it ALWAYS goes back to the off position? Any ideas pleeeeeeeease!!!!!
cheers |

Ha - Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem - I checked my BIOS too, and it is set to "Enabled 8x" Do I need to download new MOBO drivers or something? b/c my Video Drivers are up to date...

I am currently going to www.omegadrivers.net and downloading their latest ATI driver.
While I was there, I noticed there was a SMARTGART uninstaller - This may be helpful. |

I was just going to suggest that - I usually un-install SmartGart whenever I install a new Catalyst version, dating back to when it was causing problems on my P4G8X and Radeon 9700 Pro. Your results may vary, so cross your fingers and create a Restore Point first.

If I uninstall smartgart - will my card run at AGP 8x by default?

If that's what you set it at in the BIOS, then it should.
