Powercolor and gigabyte

Do these two make decent cards? I'm looking into video cards, and these two card makers seem to have the most card for the $. But i'm wary of buying cards from manufacturers i know nothing about.

The only powercolor reviews i can find on the net all refer to powercolor budget cards, and talk about what they choped down, left off, or used bad supplies to reduce card cost. Somewhat scares me.

---- On a side note, when looking at cards on newegg. I see a lot of cards have DDR256...and i see a lot of cards have GDDR3 256. Is there a noticeable difference between the two? Specifically
