he has a thermaltake 420 if i'm not mistaken. it should be more then enough to power his system. i'm thinking that it might be a problem with the MoBo. you should get a second opinion though

Yeah wattage wise your PSU should be fine, unless it's some other strange power problem. I've used driver cleaner and never had any problems, but I've had a friend that had problems. It removed some files it shouldn't have out of his system32 folder. He ended up having to do a reinstall of XP. Not saying this is your problem, but you never know.

Calm down...that's the only way you can get problems resolved. Though this may sound elementary, be sure all the connectors are plugged in well and that the monitor isn't the issue. Be sure that the graphics card is fully seated into the AGP card slot and that the power connector is on.

If it's working fine with an AGP card now, then the AGP slot shouldn't be bad. You could still take it somewhere and have it looked at if you can't figure it out though.

It might be the settings...you might consider taking the CMOS battery out to reset your entire motherboard settings - leave out for 20secs and reinsert it (circular silver battery). Be sure to disconnect the PSU prior to this. It may be the settings that is bothering the graphics card. That may be the prudent path - all your HDD data should stay intact, just you'll need to reconfig the motherboard settings once you get things settled.
EDIT: I'll clarify - what I mean by "disconnect the PSU" is make sure its switch is off and it's disconnected from the wall socket after switching it off. kram Last edited by kram 2.0; 10-27-2004 at 09:36 PM. |

Remember that just because your brand of power supply is known to be good does not mean it's impossible to get a lemon. If you're going to have the PC shop test the motherboard have them test the PSU as well.
