Can I make an audio CD using DVD disk to play in my home CD player? And will this allow me to burn more than 80 min. of music? If not, is there any way to burn an audio CD longer than 80 min., at least up to a 100?
Thank you for any advice. |

CD players cannot read DVD's. DVD's are much higher density and the lasers in CD players cannot focus. It may be possible to make an audio DVD but you would have to play it in a DVD player.

Thank you very much for your response. But is there any other way to make an audio CD 90-100 minutes long.

The only way you could do that is to make an MP3 data CD and then play it in a CD player that is capable of playing MP3's. If you make an MP3 data CD you can put 700 MB of MP3 files on it.

There are 99 minute blank CD-Rs. I've never used them. Whether or not your writing program and CD burning device can burn them, I don't know.
Then whether or not the home unit can read the whole disk is another matter. It's device specific. Even DVD players that will support audio (CD, mp3, wma) may or may not support a 99 blank CD-R and may or may not support audio formats on DVD disks.

I have not seen any CD players that support DVD's. CD and DVD drives use different types of lasers, so mechanically speaking, you can't use a CD player to read a DVD and visa versa, unless you are actually using a more modern DVD player or a DVD drive meant for a computer. These drives have 2 lasers in them; one for CDs and one for DVDs. CD drives only have the laser that is used to read CDs.
Take a look here if you want more info on CDs: http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/cd.htm And DVDs: http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/dvd.htm And other optical disk info: http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/cd9.htm
