Monitor colour problem

I have a LG 18" monitor, it's coming up to 3 years old now
About a week ago I turned it on and noticed the colour (especially darker colours) was looking really washed out, and yet I haven't changed anything. The brightness and contrast settings on my monitor are both optimised, I've been fiddling with them though, and they had no effect.
Any suggestions??

Does this happen only when the monitor is connected to your PC ? What if you connect it to another. Do the colors look ok or still the same ?
Do they look washed out during motion, or when the picture is steady, too ?
Do the colors look washed out on the entire screen, or only on one part of it ?
Does it happen with native resolution, too, or only with lower resolutions ?
Do the colors of the OSD look normal ?

I'd also try the auto adjust function, and another cable.
