Newer Dell won't recognize my serial port connected camera
I have tried to get pictures downloaded off my older Olympus D500L serial connected camera with the orignal program that came with it, which the program loaded quite nicely on my newer computer, but it can't find the port, and my comptuer is a new 2.8 p4 with windows xp and a Dell 4600.
I did check to make sure the program is set for the right com ports, and I tried all variations of ports to include the default, and it is still a no go. I even did a install new hardware and that still won't work. The great thing about my older Olympus is that it can take really close macro pics with add on lenses, and it is a slr type of digital cam. Everything still works on my old PII computer of course. Anyone have a clue. Maybe my serial port is just not working. |

I don't know much about Dells, but I'll go with Alienware Dude; it sure sounds like it's turned off in the BIOS.

Well I checked the bios and it was set to auto, so that isn't the culprit here. I also went ahead and tried a com1 setting in bios and that did not matter, so I changed it back to auto.
I did a add hardware operation again, to include add camera this time, and still it does not work. I have used the original Olympus program for resizing pics taken with the USB fuji camera I have to it seems the program works in xp. When I added serial connection it says that connection is working properly. It is just that the "Olympus" program can't find a connection, even though I have it set to auto as well in preferences. |

I don't have much, except maybe: have you check for program updates? Some older programs just don't work right in XP.
Also, although I've never tried it, but have your looked to see if "they" make a serial to USB converter plug? |
