I've just completed a new build. Spec is:-
430W PSU, Abit KV7 mobo, Athlon XP2800+ CPU, 512Mb Kingston PC3200 DDR, 256Mb Radeon 9600Pro, 80Gb Samsung HDD, 16xDVD-ROM drive. I do a clean install of XP Pro, install chipset drivers (4in1.51) and then install the graphics drivers that came with the card (6.14.10.6430). After the restart, I get the message that the ATI Control Panel failed to initialize because there is no ATI driver installed. If I check in Device Manager, the drivers are installed. If I right click on the Desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Adapter, it says that the adapter information is unavailable (also, my monitor isn't recognised). Now, if I replace the 9600Pro with an old 8500LE, everything is fine! If I put the 9600Pro in my old computer (300W PSU, Abit KT7A, 1400 T'bird, 512Mb PC133, 40Gb Western Digital HDD, NEC 2500 DVD writer) everything is OK there as well. This is doing my head in, any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Completely wipe out the driver installation and try again. Make sure you install the driver, reboot, then install the Control Panel, reboot. Have you installed DirectX?

Driver and Control Panel were installed as you said, but DirectX not yet installed. It will have to wait a few days now as the fan on the card has just broken in half!! Card will be going back to the supplier!
