Screen Resolution Problem

I seem to experiencing a weird problem with my pc & screen resolution. After we play any game, and either reboot the pc or when switching on next day, the screen resolution has dropped way back to "lowest 4 bit" and screen resolution 800x600; I'm also unable to change it. I've updated the drivers for the video card - GeForce2 MX/MX 400 - through the NVIDIA website, but the problem keeps cropping up. Only way to resolve is to update the drivers again and again.
Using Window XP home. Can anyone explain why this is happening?

I had a problem with the MX 400 in one of my builds which the nvidea drivers would not work at all with XP. The only way I could get it to work was use the default Windows drivers. Finally just pulled the card and put in an ATI.
