Hooking up PC speakers to a TV??

I am planning on purchasing a home theater system, but was wondering if I could hook up speakers such as the Logitech Z-5500 to my tv. Would I need anything special to do this? Is this possible? Or would it be better to spring the extra $400 bucks on a dedicated home theater system such as the Onkyo HT-S777C?

The Logitech Z-5500's have a built in digital decoder so you can get surround sound. With a TV, however, you will only get ProLogic II surround. You would need a cable like THIS and a coupler like THIS. You could also connect a DVD player using either optical or coaxial connections. For more information on connections look at THIS guide.

About the debate on this system or a home theater in a box system. I would get the Logitechs. Why? Because I have not been impressed by any home theater in a box systems except the ones that run over $2000. Most sound thin and lack midrange. The Logitechs are quality speakers and while they lack tweeters they should sound better than any home theater in a box system.

HiHo, I don'tunderstand what you are trying to get across to me. Could you explain WHY i need that extra stuff? Or, not even explain it to me, but tell me how it should be set up. While I'm at it, could somebody tell me how I should have my entertainment center congfigured? I have a satellite receiver, a VCR/DVD player, and then these speakers?
