video issues
I'm having issues playing video files (mpeg, avi, basically anything that you have to open in winamp or WMP) on the laptop in my signature. The video and sound both play, but they stutter horribly almost as if the file can't load completely. I haven't installed SP2 (and I don't really want to), but I don't think this is the problem since the bad playback existed before SP2 was introduced, and my desktop without SP2 plays everything fine. No other video issues exist so I have no idea what it could be. Any clues would be appreciated.

What kind of issues are you having exactly... choppy play, won't play, etc?

Sorry Hal, just edited my post noticing I had neglected to mention that. But to elaborate, it's stuttery but not in a regular manner. Seems to go between 1-2 frames per second to missing 5-second long intervals randomly, on every type/size/quality of video clip I have tried.

What kind of files are you playing? Where did you get them from?

Does this happen to all your videos, or a select few? The files that are effected, what file type are they (.avi., mpg...) and what codec is being used to play them? To find out codec information, download gspot. It will tell you what codec(s) are needed to play a given video.
This may be a case of a bad codec, a incorrectly installed codec, or the wrong codec is being used altogether. And the video file could be bad as well. Dave. |

This happens to all videos, regardless of file type, size, or origin. I've mostly been using Windows media, but they do the same thing on Winamp. I will download the program you linked to and post back, thanks for the suggestions.

Figured it out... I think.
Under Windows Media, tools, options, performance tab, advanced button, I unchecked everything in this Window. All my videos run great in WMP now. Next task is to figure it out in Winamp. |
