Video Card BIOS Flashing
I have an ATI Radeon 7200 AGP card w/32MB DDR RAM on it. It's getting pretty limited for my gaming needs. Due to budget, I was going to get a Gigabyte ATI Radeon 9550 w/128 MB DDR on it. I checked their website and looked at the Install Manual for that card and some others. Toward the end, it mentioned flashing the card's BIOS and outlined the procedure.
Now, I built my own PC, done reformats, install and reinstalls of my OS and tons of software and drivers. Same with mobo drivers and BIOS flash. So, I'm not a rank noob. But flashing a video card BIOS is a new one on me. Sorry. Is this reaally necessary except if you want to over-clock it? Doesn't the BIOS come pre-installed on the card when you buy it? Please enlighten me without flaming. Thanks. |

The card comes with the BIOS version that was out at that time, but sometimes they will make updates for it. There is no real need to update the BIOS unless you are having problems with the video card.
