Video Driver Cause Reboot?
I just installed a Gigabyte Radeon 9250 onto a previously working XP box. After installing the driver from the Gigabyte CD, the system rebooted. Then, if changing display size or refresh rate, I got reboot again. Uninstalling the drivers but using the card, I was able to change settings with no problems.
Can a driver cause this, I guess? I'm downloading the most recent Catalyst driver and control panel right now. In an hour or two when my slow-as-molasses dial-up finishes, maybe that will help?

Replying to myself here, but... Newly downloaded ATI drivers and control panel seem to have made the difference. The control panel that came on the CD with the card had some Gigabyte toolbar as part of it. Maybe that was the cause?
I guess I was just wanting to hear that drivers could cause a hard reboot like that, and that it wasn't necessarily a defective video card (which apparently - knock on wood - it isn't). |

Yes, drivers can cause reboots as well as a BSOD
Good to hear that it wasn't the card tho
