I have a strange problem with an SB Audigy sound card (SB0090) and was wondering if anyone has seen a similar situation. I've installed the card on three different systems (two mini-itx and one atx board) with identical results: when I boot the system with the card installed everything appears to power up but the monitor reads "no input." Clearly the card is defective, but what I don't understand is how a defective PCI card could disable an entire system. Any ideas?

Any device connected to your PC has the capability to render the PC inoperative. I've seen drives, keyboards, mice and PCI cards as you have described all do what you are experiencing..

The sound card is loading down a voltage below acceptable levels for other components that use the same voltage, hence things don't turn on.

Thanks for the responses. I bought the card used on ebay months ago (it worked when I tested it) so I suppose I have no choice but to toss it.

Similar Problem
Tonight I just tried to add on a DVD-CDRW Drive on a Win98 system and it would lock up windows for no apparant reason. Once I remove it-the system acts fine.
It is really annoying when some hardware you want to install can create havoc with yor rig, with no rhyme or reason. I hate computers!! (no-not really) |

sometimes you may need to try a differant pci slot to get them to work correctly.
normaly I place the sound cards in the very last slot at the bottom of the board. and on the cdrw drives, it is very important to make sure that it is jumpered correctly and on the correct ide port for the way it is jumpered. all of the above can render a system almost like dead |
