Video Upgrade-CompaqPresario

Good Morning

We have a pci GeForce2 vid.card W/64mg and would like to use it in the Compaq pc which has onboard agp integrated vid w/8mg allocated mem. Unit has a spare pci slot, my question(s) are; is the switch worth it and if so how do we make the Compaq "see" the "new" card ? What do we need to do in BIOS to make this happen ?, just a couple of rookies on this end

The Compaq is a 5101RSH with 384 mb pc100 w/a AMD Duron cpu @ 200 MHz speed, today it's hard to call that "speed" but you go with what you got .

Thanks to all that help

As you said, check in the bios for something that says disable on-board video. Probably will need to uninstall the drivers for the on-board video. As for improvements on performance, you will be able to get higher resolutions .

Yes go to BIOS, but has anyone here actually done a Compaq-Presario PC ?? This unit is not mine therefore I'm not the least bit familiar with it. What actually in the BIOS must be changed and where in Menu for the BIOS do we find it.

I have a newer Compaq Presario PC, and I installed a Radeon 9800Pro with no issues. Just plugged it in, and loaded it up. The only difference with yours is that you have a PCI card, whereas mine was AGP. Should be just as easy though

Thanks for the thought

That has been tied and the result was a blank screen, if I remember correctly...seems that in the BIOS for VGA in PCI options? the choiches where the default one which is "diabled", or 4 referances to IRQ numbers..,but no "enable" we are not sure which IRQ to select, sure we didn't, don't to messup the pc..what do we do ??
