Dell upgrade question

I'm looking to upgrade the video card in the computer in my sig. My dad has a Dell Dimension 4600 with an FX5200 in there now, and it's just not cutting it for the games he plays (Pirates, RCT3). And I was wondering, when I upgrade my video card, could I put the 9800 pro in the Dell? Or would it be overtaxing the power supply or something else in the system?

You need to see what size of PSU the Dell has and also check to see what the AGP slot is: 1x,2x,4x,8x. You need 8x for the 9800.

Dell 4600s have 8x AGP slots and 250w power supplies. I personally think 250 is a little low for a 9800Pro, but Dell does offer that video card as an option for the Dimension 4600. Opening the case and installing new hardware might void your warranty. I would check with Dell.

According to the ATI manual and online spec's, the MINIMUM recommended psu size is 350Watt. Be carefull upgrading a Dell psu. The wiring isn't ATX standard. You'd need an adapter to run an ATX psu.
