Great News.
I called them up, and managed to cancel the order. (To whom it may concern regarding the other thred.) So now I can redo the order. I talked a long time with them about how and what is best.... but I wanted to know what you guys thought. They said the 6600 GTs were better then the 6800 GTs becuse they had a faster core speed. And that the only reason why it was high priced was for the 256 MBs of RAM. They also said that as long as you have kingston x 1GB of good ram on the system it self you'll be just fine. Is that right about how it works then? |

Oh my goodness, the incompetence
![]() I suggest you don't talk to those people again. The 6800GT is a much better card in every respect. It performs better by a massive margin, as its architecture is better (more pixel pipelines, more vertex shaders, high clock/core speeds, more transistors). 6800GT all the way, and I can provide benchmark results if necessary fedz

I would greatly appreciate it if you could link the benchmark sites
That’s a bummer about the 6600GT. Is there any way that might be true perhaps if I lowered the setting the in game frames for example might increase better then even the 6800 GT? She seemed really trust worthy at the time. What really made me believe her was when she suggested a low priced card, lower then the 6800 GT. I asked her about how to not see choppy slide show frames rates. Then she said "Core speed, that’s what you need to look for" I said "Then what’s the 6800 GT priced higher for?" She: "The extra 256MBs of RAM." |

This article has comparisons between:
1. The 3D1 (two Geforce 6600's on one PCB) 2. Two Geforce 6600's in SLi 3. One 6600 (I think, its been a while since I read it.) 4. A 6800. The 6800 beats the single 6600 hands down in all tests, for the reasons fedz mentioned above. |

think of it this way. the 6800GT uses the same GPU as the 6800Ultra (nVidia's flagship card), Ultras are just binned for higher speeds, run with a different BIOS, and have a much better cooling system. 6600GT is called the midrange and 6800GT is called enthusiast for a reason.

Still, 6600GT is very good for its money. There is no doubt that 6800 series is much better but I would say for now, 6600 series is where you will find the best value. It's always like that, top end technology is a bit pricy. You might still want to consider the 6600 for sure.

This is a gaming PC, so I'd say the 6800GT is more future proof for this use, especially when used with the proposed rig (see general hardware)

there's no such thing as a future proof vid card lol.... have you seen the specs off the R520? i'd say what are your needs? if you don't have a monitor tht goes up to 1600x1200, go ahead and get a 6600GT if you don't wanna spend 400 on a vid card.
