Is there such a thing as a good music producing studio program?

Is there anything like a music producing studio program that can be used to create professional sounding music for singers. It seems like there are some groups like maybe in Europe, that don't even use bands to create their music. They just do it all in the studio electronically and then dub in a singer. It seems very possible that a computer music program could do almost as well.

I've heard of programs like Fruity Loops but that program seems real time consuming and I'm not sure that that is really a program that can be used to create good music for singers - maybe more like for computer games. But I don't know, that's why I'm asking.

Could Acid Pro do this for you? I know we used to use it in our broadcast video class a couple of years ago, but I never touched it. I think you could use different instruments and make your own music, or you could import songs, take them apart and then mess with them however you like.

~Hopefully that'll help ya.

There are tons of programs out there - Fruity Loops and Reason are more music creaton loop-based programs. You can litterally start with nothing and get something.

But that's where the creation part stops. Anything else will require musicians to lay down tracks to be mixed together. But there is one small exception - Sonicfire from SmartSound can create soundtracks simply based on a given feel, tempo and length. But it's nothing someone could sing to - it's used as a music bed for video production work. We use it in our studio quite a bit on client projects that just have video but they want it spiced up - it's easier than writing the music ourselves or paying royalties for pre-existing music.

Most of what you hear from singers that don't have a band backing them is a track created in the studio using studio musicians who are basically guns for hire - you ask them to play a give song, they do it in one take - get paid and move on. The recording engineer will take those tracks and mix them all down to a stereo pair. Once all that is accomplished for all the songs, the rough stereo tracks are sent out for mastering - a process to complicated to get into here.

Dave.

Fruity Loops is not time consuming at all; It is actually incredibly simple to use, try a demo and you will see. It's programs like cubase, logic, sonar etc where a learning curve is apparent.

Also have a look at sampletank
