Hi, I'm having problems with my onboard soundcard. The motherboard is a RZ 8184GVM-RZ series with a Intel 845GV chipset (I think that's enough info. on the board, lol, if not let me know). When I start up Windows XP Home the XP startup music sounds distorted, when I'm playing a game (eg. Star Trek Elite Force II) it distorts at times also. I have tried 2 sets of speakers & it still sounds the same, so the speakers must work, another thing when you plug in the speakers in full into the soundcard the speakers only work in mono, but if you pull the plug halfway out it's in stereo
. If you can help me solve this it would be appreciated. I'm thinking of buying a new separate soundcard but I want to see if you can help me solve this first.Weird Al |

The metal that makes up the connections inside the plug is sprung steel, it sounds like yours is losing its spring. At a guess I would say the reason you are getting distorted sound is the same reason you are having to pull the plug out slightly to get stereo, bad connections, possibly the only way to overcome this would be to change the plug. First I have no idea where you could buy a new one and second it would mean attacking your motherboard with a soldering iron. Under the circumstances and the fact that onboard sound is only average anyway, do your self a favour and treat your self to a nice new sound card, they are not expensive these days. I have fitted plenty of the Sound Blaster live 5.1's, they are not the greatest card you can buy but they are good value for money, I think they are only about US$30.
