looking for capture card

does a quality video card exist for under $50? IM looking to spend as little as possiblee but get picture quality about equivalent to my TV (will be playing xbox)

If your willing to spend a bit more, the ATI TV Wonder Pro is a rather good card... The included capture software is a pain in the arse, and rather buggy, but if you have a good capture program (like Premiere), you shouldn't have to worry.

I would get the KWorld Studio Tv Terminator card. I have one and it's great. Comes with a breakout box and remote and only costs about $33. Quality isn't the best, but stills looks perfectly fine. No problems when playing Halo 2, Steel Battalion, or Otogi.

Also I would stay away from the ATI tv tuner cards. I've heard nothing but bad things about them and they are full of bugs and bad software.

In fact, I actually own an ATi TV Wonder Pro - ATi's midrange TV Tuner (surpassed by the HDTV and Elite version). It's a great piece of hardware to have - works well, but the drivers and software that accompany it is pretty bad. I'd suggest Happauge or even the ATi I mentioned, given that you will be able to coup with a strenuous installation. However, as always, ATi provides excellent hardware for the price and it was well worth it.

Looks pretty good to me, though it doesn't really come with a large amount of "goodies."

yeah, I guess it's not a box full.....but you get a remote and it's bundled with Intervideo Home Theater. They make good software so I guess that drew me to it.

Having used 3 different tv tuner cards...I/O Magic, Ati TV Wonder Pro, and Leadtek Winfast Expert, I found that the Leadtek is head and shoulders above the other two. Neither the I/O Magic nor the Ati gave decent reception (infact the Ati was worse) and both had buggy software and drivers. The Leadtek's reception is every bit as good as my TV. Infact using the TV out on my vid card, I sent the Leadtek's signal to the TV, and it looked better. Newegg has it for $50 here.
