Radeon 9600 SE vs 9000 Pro - Which is better?
First a little background: I'm not a serious gamer, I just play occasional Quake 3 and StarSiege Tribes games. I'm mostly interested in a video card that will be decent for both gaming and video editing and I only wanted to spend around $50 (yeah I'm cheap
 ).On eBay I bought, or at least thought I was buying, a used Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro 128 AGP 4x video card but the card that I actually got was a Sapphire Radeon 9600 SE 128 AGP 8x.  I don't know yet how the seller messed that up but before I contacted him I wanted to ask you video card experts if I should just stay mum and keep the 9600 SE or should I ask the seller to send me the correct card?No, I'm not really that lazy, I did try comparing the specs on the cards. here are a couple of links: http://hardware.gamespot.com/ATI-Rad...28MB-632-S-9-9 http://hardware.gamespot.com/ATI-Rad...28MB-310-S-9-9 I'm having a hard time determining which is really the best card. The thing that jumps out at me is that the 9600 SE has a memory clock speed of 200Mhz and memory bus width of 64 bit while the 9000 Pro has 275Mhz and 128 bit. Seems to me the 9000 Pro, even though it's older, is probably the better performer. I should point out that both cards have vga/dvi/svideo outputs so they are even in that respect. The 9600SE is 8X AGP and is a true DX 9 card. Keep it. It's a 70 buck card brand new. The 9000 Pro is 4X and only DX 8.

Thanks for the fast response glc. There's one other thing that I forgot to mention in my original post, my motherboard only supports up to AGP 4x. Do you still recommend I keep the 9600?

The 8x AGP card will work fine on a 4x motherboard. The performance difference isn't much and you wouldn't notice it especially with the light gaming you do.

Ok, yeah, I guess I'll just keep this card. It wouldn't be worth the hassle of shipping it back and asking for the correct one which the moron probably doesn't have anyway. I haven't tested the gaming performance yet but the card seems to be working fine.

Well you got a better card than you *thought* you were buying. Don't exchange it for a worse one.

Ha! I just emailed him a little while ago and I asked for a $10 partial refund because of his "mistake" and he gave it to me! Yeah, I do feel a little guilt
 but HEY ... he shouldn't make those kinds of mistakes and he should know what the heck he's selling, right? Besides, he included the wrong installation CD (9000 and not 9000 Pro) and it took him a week just to get it in the mail to me. Wonder how this guy stays in business.

I wouldn't use the CD that comes with any card. They have outdated drivers. Just download the newest ones off the ATI website.
