Depends, what do you want to DO with your captured video?

Since it's a DV camcorder the best way to capture video would be to use FireWire. If your PC has a FireWire port (AKA, IEEE394) then you're set in regards to video capture. If not, you can buy a PCI FireWire card. For software, as Reboot said, it depends on what you want to do with the video. Do you want to edit it, add effects, transitions, etc.? Put it on DVD?

Do your relatives have computers, and they can view the product on those, or do you want them to be able to play in standalone DVD players?

Then you're going to have to learn a lot.
First you need to learn capture software. Something to get the video from the cam onto the computer in a format you can work with. You then probably want some editing software. Most good editors will also capture. Pinnacle Studio 9, Sony Vegas Movie Studio, and Adobe Premiere are all decent (I like Pinnacle). You then need something to author the finished product to dvd. Again, most good packages will do this as well as burning it to dvdr. I would suggest, for a beginner, this: Pinnacle Stuido Package A very nice, all in one package, that will do you for years of editing and authoring. |
