Exclamation Celestica Radeon 9200 256MB Game problems

the problem is i jsut got this new card (Celestica Radeon 9200 256MB) today and i have already encounterd several problems with it.

when playing relatively high end games (e.g. the sims 2 and half life 2) i get graphical corruption like certain parts of people in game have the wrong textures (half life 2) or have no textures at all but the base skin colour (The sims 2) meaning i have to reduce the level of detail down just to stop the corruption. my specs are :

2.6 AMD Athalon XP
512Mb ddr ram
Celestica Radeon 9200 256MB video card
about 200Gb free HD space

please could some one help im just so annoyed that my new card has done this . thnx

Your card probably can't handle those high of settings. Those are some of the most graphically demanding games out and your card is several generations old.

Welcome to PCMech!

Yeah, id have to agree with shadowbreaker. A radeon 9200 is a little outdated against all these new high-end games. Your other system specs are fine, so if you really want to play those games, you'll want to invest in a more powerful video card. Im using a radeon 9800, which im happy with. I havent played HL2 or other games that intense, so I dont know how well a 9800 would work on that.

The 9200 is a current card, but it doesn't have DirectX9 hardware support, it has to emulate DX9 functions in software which will slow it down considerably. More and more games are just about requiring a DX9 hardware card.

A 40 quid card is not going to play high tech games at high settings, no matter how much ram it has. It's games that are driving video card technology - cheap cards can do everything else pretty well. The old saying - if you want to play, you gotta pay - applies. Think around 125 quid for a starting point, that will get you a 9800 Pro or a 6600GT.
