Studio 8 Capture through USB

I have a Sony miniDVD camcorder with a USB port and would like to capture the video with Studio 8 (instead of using Sony's Image Maker). The Sudio 8 HELP said capture is through Firewire. I can't get Studio to recognize the USB or a DVD through the DVD player/burner.

Any Help?

That camcorder should have a IEEE1394 port on it as well - Sony labels it iLink but it's the same as firewire (and it's all IEEE1394).

You'll get a much higher transfer rate using IEEE1394 as well (even over USB2 since USB standards share bandwidth over all ports).

No ILink found

Don't think it has the firewire port. The manual doesn't mention one either. The Camcorder model is SONY DCR-DVD101.

My bad - it's a DVD handycam. Why even bother with streaming from the camera? Just rip the audio and video from the DVD and import into Studio. And that camera is only USB1.1 capable - the best video streaming you'll get from it is 320x240. That's less than half DVD quality.

Do you use DVD-RAM for recording ? If so, you need a drive that is capable of reading DVD-RAM.

Please Excuse My Ignorance

How do I rip from the DVD and then import? I've been trying and can't figure that out. I called Sony's tech support but was unable to get the help I needed there. Do I need additional software? If so is there anything outthere thats free.

Thanks
