Problem with MSI 6600GT on new PC build
This is my first post here, so bear with me.
I work in IT and figured I had a good working knowledge of PC's. However this is the first PC I've ever built from scratch. So I hope I'm making a careless mistake somewhere, because it isn't working yet... Specs: Cheap PowMax case w/ 400w PS AMD 64 3000 Winchester 1GB Corsair Value Select PC3200 RAM (2x512) MSI NVIDIA 6600GT Chaintech NForce4 All the parts are new, except for two 250gb WD2500JB IDE drives from my existing PC, which still work, of course. So here's my problem. I put all the pieces in place, and when I power on, I get no picture. Case LEDs, HD spindle, CPU fan, video card fan, are all running/moving like they should. My Dell moniter just flashes the power LED, as if it were in sleep mode. The curious thing is, if I pull the VGA adapter out from the card, then the monitor will display the "Check Video Signal" screen. When I put the VGA cable back into the video card, the message goes away, but still no picture, and power LED on the monitor is still flashing. Here are some other things that may be helpful: 1. No sound from the PC speaker on bootup (not booting up? mobo problem?) 2. No separate power feed for the video card (not sure if there should be, documentation is not accurate at all) Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'm missing something, and don't have a DOA part. Thanks. |

It's a pci-express card and doesn't need a power connector. One of the problems may be the 400w POWmax power supply. POWmax makes some of the absolute worst power supplies on the market. I would be surprised if that thing was putting out 250w.

You probably got the same case as me( looks like a car) and i had that 400 watt power supply for about 3 weeks of little use and it failed on me. Luckily It didn't take any thing with it. I Wasnt even a vid card at the time.

ROFL!
Is the motherboard outputting any beeps? It should do if the video card is failing. If the PSU or motherboard is failing you won't hear anything fedz

If it's a bad power supply, would it still supply power to all the fans and such?
The mobo currently makes no beeps. The only time I've gotten it to beep was when I accidentally plugged in this four pin power connecter to the motherboard (left side of pic). Motherboard shot These pics will probably get screwed in a bit, since it's on geocities... Last edited by duucfho; 03-13-2005 at 09:25 AM. Reason: typo |

If the pics are under 100kb each, you can upload them here as attachments. Geocities is not cooperating. You could use Photobucket, they allow external linking.
