Connecting Digital CD Output or Analog CD Output?

Which of the two cables should I use to connect from my DVD-ROM to my sound card? Should I connect the digital CD output or analog CD output or both?

What would be my big difference to do so and why?

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer, Sony 16x DVD-ROM

Won't really make a difference - you don't have to use either IMO. The PCI bus can easily handle PCM audio data.

Some people would argue that if you are listening to a CD or DVD it 'sounds' better than without the cable or by using the analog cable. My ears cannot precieve a difference nor can my reference microphones when I hooked them up to measure any differences for a common source.

So I still am getting audio without the cable plugged in to either a motherboard or sound card? If there is not a 'noticable' difference with or without the cable I will just remove it.

As I said, the PCI bus will handle PCM audio (pulse code modulation - the basic form of digital audio to keep matters simple).
