extended desktop mode not showing
I have an ati radeon 7000 series dual agp video card with 2 viewsonic 19" crt monitors connected on the 15 pin dual vga sockets.
I have done a lot of research and can't find a solution to how i can extend my desktop. Both monitors show the same thing. When i go the my desktop and click on properties then settings the window has only 1 monitor showing and no option for extended desktop. I have win2k, dell 4100 p111. Device mgr shows the radeon 7000 under display....and monitors shows 2 separate monitors.... default and plug and play. I went to advanced in the monitor display window and clicked on the left monitor as primary and the right arrow for the right monitor & clicked apply...but there is something missing in the driver i imagine. I'm wondering if the catalyst 8.01 driver suite would work with this video card and would solve the problem..... any help would be appreciated ....thanks |

Will the catalyst 4.5 driver suite work with radeon7000
Does anyone know if the catalyst 4.5 suite upgraded to the 8.01 driver will work with the radeon 7000 as a possible fix. I downloaded the suite from ati (approx. 23MB) . I'm wondering if this will fix the problem. I booted up in safe mode and checked for ghost entries in either display or control panel for double entries of old drivers as a possible cause of the problem i'm having but everything looked ok. I guess the last possiblity would be to get another video card but this one is working fine except that I don't show dual display monitors in settings mode on my desktop etc. thanks for any replies

I am not familiar with the ATI, but have a Matrox dual head card. If you do not have the proper drivers, the system only shows one monitor. As soon as you load the Matrox software, you have access to the two. It sounds as if you need the right drivers.

Sounds like you have things set as clone. Try going into display properties/settings and on the monitor you want as primary, check the box "use this deive as the primary monitor". Also make sure that the other boxis checked for both monitors.
