how to tell what tft technology an LCD uses?
Hi, I've read RJ's research on TFT technologies and I'm looking to switch to an 19 inch LCD. $400 is the limit to my budget and I plan to do gaming, video editing, and watch occasional DVD's. I've read that the response times are different for MVA,TN, and IPS technologies. I was thinking of going with the IPS technology because it is fast and still gives you 16.7 million colors which would be good for digital pictures and video. How can I tell what TFT technology an LCD uses? I know Samsung lists whether they use PVA/MVA or TN technology. That is about the only manufacturer that lists it on NEWEGG. I did find an Iiyama PLE 481s that uses IPS. Is this a reputable manufacturer? I think RJ said that this manufacturer uses LG or another good manufacturer for its LCD panels. Thanks for your input. Mark

You can translate it using the Google Translation Tool. Just copy/paste the URL into the "Translate a webpage" box at the bottom.

![]() Dunno when it'll be, though. It's "Monitorvergleich" (monitor comparison), then you'll end up here. Now just pick the models you want (hold down ctrl to select more), and when you're done, click on the "Vergleichen" (compare) button at the bottom. And voila, you see all the specs of the monitors, including panel technology. Most specs you'll understand without speaking german. Even so, here's the translation: Produktbezeichnung : product name Produktbild : product picture Hersteller : manufacturer Preis : price Diesen Monitor kaufen bei : buy this monitor at Paneltyp : panel type Panelhersteller : panel maker Bildschirmdiagonale : screen size (diagonal) Pixelfehlerklasse : pixel error class Pixelabstand : pixel pitch Auflösung (empfohlen) : resolution (recommended) Bildaufbauzeit (rise + fall) : response time (rise + fall) Bildaufbauzeit grey-to-grey : response time grey-to-grey Helligkeit : brightness Kontrast : contrast ratio Betrachtungswinkel vertikal : vertical viewing angle Betrachtungswinkel horizontal : horizontal viewing angle Anzahl der Farben : amount of colors Abmessung (BxHxT) : size (width x height x depth) Gehäusefarbe : casing color Signaleingang : signal input Eingänge (Anzahl) : inputs (number) S-Video Eingang : S-Video input Fuß (drehbar) : base (turnable) Fuß (höhenverstellbar) : base (adjustable in height) Display neigbar : display tiltable Pivotfunktion : pivot function Lautsprecher (integriert) : speakers (integrated) Gewicht : weight Farbmanagement : color management Interpolationsverhalten wählbar : interpolation type selectable Wandhalterung VESA-Norm : wall mounting kit VESA-standard TCO-Norm : TCO standard Netzteil : PSU Besondere Ausstattung : special features Garantie : warranty (though I think that's Germany only) Datenblatt als PDF-Format : datasheet in PDF format Testergebnisse : test results That's where I get the info from, as most times it's not mentioned in the spec sheet on the manufacturers website. RJ
