Okay, I am really confused and frustrated and would really appreciate some help. I have a windows millenium me, or whatever it's called.lol. And, here's how it started. One day, my dad accidently kicked- or something like that- my monitor - on accident of course, and when I started my computer and went into windows, the graphics were only 16 bit, and a message box came up saying something like you need to install a new display driver and if you want you can go to windows update...blah blah blah. So, I did and there were no display driver updates. However, I had a display driver cd for windows 95/98, NT 4.0, and 2000 (eVGA Display Driver - CD Ver 4.12) and I'm not sure if this came with the computer. Before installing I was prompted by the cd to uninstall my previous driver, so I did and then I successfully installed the new driver and things were awesome again, but not exactly the same as before. But, one day I had decided to change my resolution, and as soon as I finished clicking, my monitor went flash, and then my monitor acted like my tower was off, in other words my computer was on but the green light on my monitor turned brown. Stayed like that for a week or two, then I messed around during start up and entered "del" and messed in the settings. Then one miraculous day, my computer did not go dark after start up, but my graphics were low again as before. One weird thing that kept happening is at first I had all these resolution options, then each time it went into low resoulution by itself it would only have three options like 16 bit, 256, and high 16 bit, I tried changing them and it would say - in order for these changes to occur you must restart your computer, so i did, and when I got back into windows, nothing changed. So, my next thought was to try and install the same display driver again, everything was going like before except this time, at some point, my dowload or installation would hang up, I would exit, and a message would say something like you do not have enough memory for this file or something to that effect. So I did some more messing around in control panel and again in bios, and I notice now that I only have one resolution in my option for resolutions place, and is only 16 bit. And every time I turn my computer on, it will give me a message saying like, " file deskcp16.dll - not enough memory" I don't know what's wrong. HELP! Do I need to buy some more memory or do I need to buy a new video card or do I need to buy a new computer all together and disturbingly beat this computer with much pleasure proceeded by me caressing the new and nicer computer (joke). I would like to keep this computer, but I'm thinking it has something wrong in the tower because this isn't the only thing wrong with it, first thing to mess up was our cd rom driver - so my dad's friend who "knows computers" took it out and my dad bought another one that has yet to be put in the tower, don't know if it's drive c, d, e or whatever letter. Also, my audio won't work correctly, I can use spressa play(type of sony program for music) and it works, but everything else will not play sound for games, windows media, and music programs. And, I recently found out that my floppy disk driver isn't working right. Also, I had to switch my internet service to AOL because I figured out that my computer wouldn't pick up the dial tone unless it had "access numbers". And, now we are switching to yahoo dsl, but for some reason the dsl isn't working right, my portal will say that it isn't connected to the internet or something like that, so I'm still using AOL. Can anybody see in all this caos what is going wrong, or went wrong that I can possibly fix by myself, or do I need a real professional. I'm okay if my audio and floppy drive doesn't work, but I really need my graphics and intend to install the other drive that is not in, even though I do have my dvd drive which for the most part works and is the one that I've been using. Please help, what could be wrong - concerning the graphics?? lol. I don't wanta have to pay a certain amount to fix this computer, where which I could've bought a new computer with the exact same amount. Help is GREATLY appreciated, and sorry for this long confusing post.

OK first of all I think you should sit down and breath deeply, I ran short of breath reading it, lord knows what it must have been like to type it all. Just a couple of questions to get you going. Is this a store bought branded machine? or a custom built machine? What antivirus and spyware scanners are you using with ME? Do you have much in the way of personal files stored on the hard drive? music, pictures or college work whatever? BTW welcome to PC Mech.

My dad purchased the computer from one of those tv channels, hsn. I use McAfee Virus scan from AOL, Spyware Protection from AOL, and AOL Privacy Wall. I don't think I have much stored on the hard drive, I deleted all my music, a good number of pictures, alot of documents, and whatever I could find that I didn't need. I defragmented and used disk cleanup.

since this is windows me, and forgive me if you tried this, i stopped reading 5 lines down, but you could try a system restore, and restore your computer back to the time when it was working
don't know exactly the layout ine ME, but i think its programs->accessories->system tools->system restore. that is how it is in xp, so you may be a little different btw, welcome to pcmech! craig

Start ME in safe mode and there's a system restore link right on the safe mode desktop.

Well, I guess I'll do a little more "research" on how the video card works, possibly look at other things that could be causing my problem, and if need be I will take it to a pro. Thanx for the help tho, and if anyone still has any thoughts don't hesitate to post, I'm still gonna check periodically for updates and what not.
