Boom Problems with onboard audio when installing Soundblaster

Well, if this is any hint at what has happened Im typing this to you in safe mode.

So my onboard audio on my Computer had been acting up for some time, so I decided to buy a Soundblaster LIVE card to replace it. I came to these boards to get instructions as to how I should go about disableing the onboard sound. What I did was I went to Device Manager, uninstalled the driver (it also had it marked with a '?'), and then rebooted. One note is that there are a ton of different drivers in my audio section, and the instructions were a bit vague on which ones to uninstall, so I just uninstalled the one driver which I knerw related to my onboard sound.

So once I rebooted, I went to BIOS, and disabled "AC '97 Audio" or something similar to that. Then I rebooted again and then turned of the PC. After I installed the card, I rebooted and everything seemed to be working alright (even though there was no sound yet, I assumed that was because I hadn't installed the drivers yet) and then 20 seconds into windows everything froze. It did this every time i retried.

I then ran it in safe mode, the computer said that it detected and installed the new hardware, but if I go to audio everything is in grey and it says that there is no sound card. Also, I went to SoundBlasters website to get the drivers for my card, and once downloaded I ran it and it said "no soundblaster hardware detected."

HELP!

uninstall your chipset drivers and reinstall them without the AC97 audio. soundblaster drivers are notorious for conflicting with onboard audio drivers. one little smigeon of AC97 drivers can cause a world of headache.

That board may be sold by Asus, but it's made by PC Chips.
