Here's my basic system:
Athlon 1900xp VIA KT266A-1 ghz of PC 2100 Ram Radeon 9600 Pro oc@ 515/320 430w Power supply This is a high spec 3 1/2 year old system so I'm guessing it's worth putting in a Radeon 9800 Pro. And I've seen one new for $120. But how about the Geforce 6600 GT, which costs about $200? Would my relatively old rig be able to make use of it? Also do you need a 8x AGP board for the 6600 GT? I'm looking to improve frame rates with the newer games. Last edited by Gary Goldsmith; 05-23-2005 at 08:01 AM. Reason: clarification |

A 6600GT can be had for $149 and yes it's 4X/8X.
Check this out : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...06#DetailSpecs Either card would be good it depends on your plans. If you just need a card to hold you till the end of the year when you're doing a new build or a major overhaul, and you can't stand the one you've got now a moment longer, then get the 9800. If you're going to be using the computer for longer then that the 6600GT would be the better deal.
