Stereo as computer sound question

Hello.

Would using my current stereo speakers as computer speakers sound ok? I am asking this question because I have tried using computer speakers for normal stereo, and they sounded bad...

The speakers in question would be 4x 6 Ohm combo stereo speakers, much like the ones you see Here on the JVC website, but older and not nearly as sexy looking. (one 10" cone, and one 2" cone, aprox)

Anyway, would that sound decent? I would wire the out on the Audio card to the Aux ports on the stereo...

Oh yes, and the Audio card in question would be the new(ish) Audigy2 Platinum.

Thanks in advance.

That will work good. you can also then use "tape out" if you have it to bring sound into the computer to record from tape, records, radio.

Only issue I see would be the stereo speaker are probably unshielded. So you would not want to get them close to your monitor as unshielded speakers have bad effects on CRT monitors.

if your sound card supports it use a fiber optic cable or digital coaxial cable to your stereo receiver. it will help in providing better sound quality.

It would be for the computer in my sig, with an LCD monitor. Are LCD monitors effected in the same way? If yes, then how close is "close"?

I have done what you are talking about. Works nicely. Just set your stereo to the AUX setting, plug an RCA wire into the auxillary port and put it into your line out port (using and adapter) on your sound card. You probably already new that, but for those who didn't, there you go. It works quite well. I used a 5.1 sound card to get surrond sound. Put my stereo into the rear port and my computer speakers into the front port. Awesome surrond sound.
