Error caused by NVIDIA® Corporation: No specific solution found

Hi,

(I hope this is the correct forum)

I regularly get the following error message:

has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

especially if I have downloaded software or app.s and am trying to install. Although I get it also when an application crashes or freezes. The Microsoft crash analysis always tells me this:

Error caused by NVIDIA® Corporation: No specific solution found

Problem Description

An analyst at Microsoft has investigated this problem and determined that an unknown error occurred in nVidia Capture Driver. This software was created by NVIDIA® Corporation.

Problem Resolution

Microsoft has researched this problem with NVIDIA® Corporation, and they do not currently have a solution for the problem that you reported. Below is a list of recommendations to take that may help prevent the problem from recurring.

Although I have found that if I simply restart I can then open or run the file without any problem.

There is an Nvidia driver update but when I install it I cannot open games (Call of Duty, Battlefield 1942) because it tells me files are missing - so I have to roll back.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would be glad to read them.
Best regards to all.

Hey a fellow londoner!!

Follow these instructions to the letter and it should work:

1. Download Nvidia's latest driver (see the driver thread at the top of this forum)

2. Go to your device manager. For each nvidia device you see (there might be two) double click on it and click on 'uninstall driver'. It will prompt you to restart but ONLY restart after you have uninstalled drivers for both

3. Restart the computer. Your display will now be working on Windows XP standard drivers

4. Go to the location where you have downloaded the Nvidia drivers in step 1 and install these

5. Restart the computer immediately after the install is complete

That should work

thank you Fedz that worked...
the download that wouldn't install because of a problem with nvidia has installed fine, and a small issue on my desktop has been resolved. And I can now open and play Call of Duty...

but a new problem has been created!

Now, after playing Call of Duty for about half an hour various elements of the 3d models start flickering, and turning off and on! For example, a uniformed solder's helmet will flicker on and off, parts of vehicles will disappear, textures will appear inside other textures where they shouldn't be - the game becomes unplayable !!!

Does anyone have any ideas how I should proceed?

Make sure you have DX9.0c first. You can download that from microsoft.
It sounds as if you are having artifacting.

Try this:

Open up your case, point a large desk fan in the general direction of your graphics card and try gaming. If the problem no longer occurs then you have heat issues. In that case try dusting your fans a little

Thanks again for your suggestion.

I have gone back to the nvidia site and tried installing an older driver
( 71.84_win2kxp_international ) according to your previous instructions (uninstalled, restart, installed, restart) and this time it seems to be ok - so I guess the newer driver ( 71.89_win2kxp_international ) has some sort of compatibility problem with my system.

My Directx does seem to be up to date.

I ran a dxdiag:

I am assuming that since installing an older driver seems to have solved the problem, then the idea of overheating or fan inadequacy is no longer relevant.

That said, I did seem to remember some recommended software utility in one of my pcmech emails and so I searched it out and found it then downloaded and installed Speedfan from: http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php and have been running it the last two days.

It's a very useful little utility by the way which analyses, displays and gives you control over fan speeds, temperatures and voltages.

I have two HDs and it tells me that one of them is running at 2961rpm and the other at 3309rpm and it gives me temperatures between 20c and 61c I am hoping that the top end of the temperatures of 61c is not too high? it seems to have stayed constant.

Any thoughts anyone?

Hi, no there isn't a problem any longer.

Thank you very much for your generous help.

I always recommend pcmech to anyone who will listen! And this is why; problems get solved here.

Best regards.
