Unhappy ATI Radeon 9250 PCI 128 MB 64 Bit Install Problems

Hello!

I am having a problem installing an ATI Radeon 9250 PCI Video Card, with 128 MB and 64 Bit. It is distributed by Power Color.

My system specs are as follows:

Compaq Celeron 600 MHz (Outdated, I know)
Windows 98 SE
No AGP Slots

I was using, until recently another PCI Video Card by SiS, the 32 MB 315-315e, and it was working flawlessly, except it was very, very limited in what it could do for graphics enhancement. That's the reason I decided to switch to an ATI Card.

I received the ATI Card yesterday. So, I uninstall the current card's Drivers, and powerd down to remove it. Then, I replace it with the new card by ATI, I power up, expecting to at least see the COMPAQ logo Screen, but, my Monitor doesn't show anything. I try powering down and back again, no change, still a black screen. Yes, I did connect everything back where it's supposed to be.

So, I choose to at least try the following: I put each card into a PCI slot and turn on my PC again. The only card detected by my PC is the old card. I proceed to install the drivers for both cards. And then, restart. As I restart, I notice now my PC lists both cards as available, but, has chosen my old Video Card as the primary one. But, the PC pops up a message stating that my ATI Driver is not installed, or it may have problems. I uninstall/reinstall those drivers, same problem.

I uninstall my old SIS Video Card, power down, and remove it, and power back on, same problem, black screen.

I have reached the point where I am attempting to download ATI Drivers from the internet and try one last time. If this doesn't work, and I am out of options, I will have to send it back to store for full refund/exchange, too bad I purchased it online, and they will charge me for Delivery/Restocking....

Any advice, or similar experiences?

I can't seem to find the card on Newegg, but...

Does it have a separate power connection that the power supply needs to be plugged into?

Have you tried the new card in all of the PCI slots by itself?

smokin Video Card still not working.

I double-checked the card for a power connection, buut, it has none. Also, tried all the PCI ports by itself. I am about to try installing it on my brother's PC, to check if the problem is the card itself, or my PC's motherboard is just totally incompatible with that particular card.

I think the problem might be this: my PC is a Compaq. They designed these things to not work with anything else at all.

One of 2 things - defective card or the Compaq power supply can't handle the load. It is NOT a driver issue if you can't even get a Compaq logo display, drivers only take effect when Windows starts. The logo screen is standard VGA that doesn't even use the accelerator circuits on the card.

Already fixed the problem!!!!

Well, my PC was running Windows 98, let's just say that thing is really outdated, and basically causes too many problems. I call it "unstable", I installed Windows XP on my PC, and lo and behold, it instantly recognized my Radeon Video Card and set it as the Primary Video Display Adapter. After that, I installed the updated Drivers, and am happily witnessing how my PC has been rejuvenated. Thank you, Windows XP!

Omg I just bought this same video card from CompUSA and I was getting the same problem, no video. At first I tried out a different video card and it was working fine so I assumed there was a problem with the 9250 and I brought it back to exchange it for another, but when I got back the new 9250 was having the exact same problem! This was happening on my DELL btw, with Windows XP SP2 installed. So I came here and saw this post and decided to throw the video card that was working back in there and run Windows Update based on Jess' last post, and after installing all the high priority updates I threw the 9250 back in there and now it is working fine. Huzzah!!!
