cassette to CD
How do i take the music from old cassettes, down load it to a computer and burn it to Cd's?

If you have a tape deck, use the "tape out" output and connect to "line in" on your sound card. Play the tape and save the wav file. Then use a burning program and use the audio burn to make a music CD.

You need a cassette recorder or player with line-out. Then you connect this line-out to the line-in of the sound card. In Windows mixer, you select line-in for the recording source, then you can just play back the cassette and record the music using a program like one that came with your sound card, or Audacity, or whatever. Just make sure you set the values (sample rate etc.) according to the CD standard.
Then you can also clean it a bit if you like, and cut the recording, edit it however you like, and finally you can use Nero (or another burning program) to burn. RJ

I bought a "Plusdeck" that fits right into a bay and you just put your casette in and it will record it to a wav file and automatically burn to a CD. I have been transferring lots of tapes to CD and it works great.

Hi trulad. I've seen several reviews on the PlusDeck (PCM did one, too) but none that I've seen mention the quality of the recording... I know it's easy to use, but does the recording sound like the original? or is there a difference?

In the Plusdeck menu it gives you the option to record to wave or mp3. I think the quality of the cd is better than the casette. I also play tapes on it, better sound over my pc 5in1 speakers than my little casette player.

Conversion of Analog sound
I capture with this:
http://www.xitel.com/product_inport.htm It lets you take ANY analog input to wav. If I'm picky or the source needs repair I use Goldwave to fix it, level the L R channels, etc. Then it gets saved/burned. |
