odd question about video upgrades?
In my motherboard I have a 845GL video controler but I would like better video performance.
My question is what are my options? thanks in advance

I think your choices are quite limited because your motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot. You could pop the side open and check but most eMachines use a micro ATX mobo with no AGP and 3 pci slots. That means you'll only be able to add a PCI video card. None of them are very high powerd (don't confuse PCI with PCI-e).
The cards on this link (page 3) are the top priced choices from Newegg. Note that the higher end ATI's don't support Dx9 while the FX5500's and FX5700 do support Dx9. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...6:9642&bop=and

My next question is can I upgrade my card and keep the old one wrking side by side with the new one?

You can deactivate the onboard graphics and install a graphics card.
You should be able to use both graphics card and onboard graphics at the same time to use 3 monitors. If you don't plan on using 3 monitors, it's better to disable the onboard graphics. 2 graphics card at the same time to double the performance is called SLI, but you'd need two PCI-e x16 slots, which you don't have. I had the same video drivers on my old system and I installed a Radeon 9250LE PCI card. I overclocked it a little and I can run most all the new games up to Battlefield 2. The 9250 is a great card IMHO.
