Converting video?

i just got my new mp3 player and it plays videos.. but in order to do that, i have to convert the file so it fits the screen... only problem is when i convert its kinda messed up, the video might freeze for bout a millisecond eery couple ten minutes, the timing of the sound doesnt match with the video if the clip is really long.... what should i do to fix this? i know its not the mp3 player cause i check on my computer too... my comp specs are
asus a8v mobo
amd 3500+ (the core was something that began with an w i think)
1gb of corsair valueselect ram
200 gb sata seagate hd

No. All that work is done on the processor. Is there another program that you can resize/convert with?
