Video codecs

is there a program that will list the codecs in a video, with the possibility of listing if you have them or not? I am starting to get sick of mpegs that cant open due to some bogus codec, and then having the program not telling you what is missing.

If MPEG is your problem, the sollution is pretty simple. Install a DVD playback software such as PowerDVD or WinDVD. They got MPEG-2 filters so you can play them back.
And MPEG-1 is already supported by the OS itself.

That's the only two type of MPEGs that come in an .MPG or .MPEG container.

For any other codec (in AVI files) and whether you have it installed or not, here you go.
