9800XT Drivers? Video Problem!!

Well i built my own computer, and got fed up after spending countless hours dealing with a bad motherboard that was unknown at the time. I ended up bringing it to a repair shop who concluded the motherboard was bad. They hooked everything up, the computer worked for 3 weeks no problem. Then all of a sudden, I wasnt playing a game or anything, I got the blue screen that says windows is shutting down due to protect your hardware. Then from that point on, It would not even start up. Before ever getting to the windows desktop, only the screen where the Windows XP logo comes up and the bars go across below it, after that the screen will either go black with no signal, or become all scrambled and not continue loading.

Now I have a Sapphire Radeon 9800XT, Asus A8V Deluxe Mobo, AMD 64 3200+ processor with a 500 watt antec psu. 1 GB corsair PC3200 ram, 160 GB Seagate SATA

I try normal drivers for XP, from the ATi site (catalyst) and after installing the drivers and restarting the windows XP logo will load at the start then the screen goes back and is no longer receiving a signal.

I currently have the Radeon Omega drivers installed (latest version) and the computer will boot up normally, however the computer will react very slow when loading new windows or refreshing the page. when scrolling, it jumps, it no longer moves smoothly. Anytime i go to load a game, the disc will spin, however no game will run.

I have removed the video card and put in a crappy 64 mb one and everything works perfectly. I love this video card to death, but I am having such a hard time with these drivers, is there something that may not be compatible that is giving me these problems, or am I using the wrong drivers? Please help!! Or is there a new video card that you would suggest?

Welcome to PC Mech forums

It looks like ATI is having some troubles with the Catalyst 5.10 drivers in general. I would recommend installing the old card and uninstalling the catalyst drivers completely by using the ATI uninstall utility. Then reinstall the 9800XT and install the Catalyst 5.9 Drivers (September Edt.) and see how things go. ATI is coming up with the 5.11 soon (presumably mid-November, following their trend), but it will include games enhancement which will very likely mean they will look the other way to stability problems.
