Analog to DVD xfers no better than 2nd gen analog copies
Hello: I used to be jurassicpc but got new equipment and forgot password.
I'm using an ATI TV Wonder Pro to capture the video/audio I'm using a consumer end Panasonic (old) vcr to play the tape It looks clear on monitor but resulting DVD is worse than copy of copy analog I've tried capturing through Windows Movie Maker and through Nero with same results. Machine is new to me (4 days now) and it was custom built to handle video editing better. Any suggestions? Software or my vcr? Thanks. Good to be back even if bfuddled_again. |

What codec are you using to capture? If you are doing a straight copy from tape to DVD you would probably want to capture in MPEG 2. If you are editing, an uncompressed AVI format would be best.

Thanks for answering. Thought I did mpeg, not sure about mpeg2. I'll start from scratch and make sure I use mpeg2 codec. Keep you posted (if you'd like).

Also, what resolution and bitrate are you using ? These are pretty much the most important factors that determine the final quality of an MPEG video.

Thanks! I've been using auyo capture programs like Nero and Windows media. They don't give a lot of choices. Am open to suggestions on better software for ATI TV Wonder Pro.

This is where a little knowledge is worth less than nothing. Have downloaded a complete codec package. Don't quite know what to do with them. Have purchased a bidirectional dvr/vcr for vcr s-video output and get a .wmv file that I can't figure out how to convert to mpeg2. Dubbing on the dvr/vcr would work, except the dvr uses R- discs. I'm now beyond bfuddled!
Alll I started out to do was move two cablecast master tapes to dvd. I haven't gotten a good quality transfer yet (did get sound though!). Any help would be deeply appreciated. I still have some time, but a deadline of next week is running up on me (over me) quickly. Thanks, bfuddled_again AND brainlost. Last edited by bfuddled_again; 11-16-2005 at 07:37 AM. I thank all of you who helped me and even the ones that just read my post. I don't have it down pat yet, but the learning curve is beginning to flatten. You forum members helped that to happen. I'm sure I'm not out of questions, though, so I'll be sticking around.
Appreciation to everyone. |
