Realtek AC97 onboard sound mic problems, please help
My PC has the Realtek AC97 on board sound chip. I have a bunch of buddies that I play online games with that use Ventrilo for chat. I downloaded Ventrilo and it seems to be working fine. I can hear all of the other guys. Well, I got tired of typing all the time so yesterday I purchased a Plantronics .Audio 90 headset/mic. I hooked it up yesterday and the headphones are working perfectly but the mic isn't working at all. I have my chat in Ventrilo bound to a key on my keyboard. Whenever I push the talk button, the other guys that are on Ventrilo say that all they can hear is feedback or my in game music & sound. My sound recorder under Accessories/Entertainment is also not picking up the mic. Do you think I got a defective mic, a defective mic input on back of PC or does it have something to do with my onboard sound? Please help!

Have you got any sort of a sound control panel that was installed on your system for your onboard sound? If there is you need to select your microfone. Alternately, you could go to : start > control panel > sounds and audio devices > make sure that the sound recording device is your onboard sound card. Then click the Volume button for sound recording. Make sure that the microfone is selected in it.
