Brightness problems -_- Getting annoying.

Hey everyone,

I have an MSI FX5200 (128mb, AGP) that i got a while back for this compaq pc im running. The monitor is a compaq MV540. Everything is really dark, in games i have to turn the gamma and brightness up and everything, If set to default everything is too dark, so im trying to find a good setting to put it at but the colors get diluted or distorted etc.

Anyone know why its so dark or what I could do to fix this, btw the monitors Brightness is set to max.

P.S. I have the latest drivers for the GPU, I can use the nVidia color management thing, i can import custom color settings etc.

Please help me!

Do you have a second videocard to monitor cable you could try? Often color distortion and clarity issues result from a cable with is bitting the dust - plus it is cheaper to try a new cable before looking into hardware problems.

It is probably the monitor. I had a 15" Sylvania monitor (back when 15" CRT's were sexy ) and it just started getting darker and darker until it was unusable. That's one of the symptoms of a dying CRT.

I'd guess it's just the monitor too. My brother picked up a used monitor that his workplace was selling for cheap, and that thing is pretty dark too. Brightness is maxed out and it doesn't matter what computer you hook it up to either.....all different video cards look the same on it (dark), so it pretty much has to be something with that monitor. Yours is likely the same.
