What Settings to use for recording Real Player streaming audio

I'm recording Real Player streaming audio files. I have set total recorder with the mp3 Lame encoder to catch it at 128kbits, 44khz stereo. I know that I don't need it that high and someone even told me that doing so can even make the audio worse. So what do I set it on. I have no idea of the comparison of Real Player audio files to mp3 files.
