Question 6800 XT or 6600GT

I am going to be building a new computer soon and was just wondering what you thought of these 2 cards. I want to be able to play current games on high settings such as FEAR and i am not sure which of these cards is better, the 6800XT or the 6600GT one of these cards is likely to be the choice i will go for as they seem affordable and good enough for todays games

I am unlikely to be still using the computer for gamin purposes in a couple of years as i get older so i am wanting a system which is devently cheap but good enough for high graphics, below are the links for the two cards

The 6600 GT:
http://www.computerorbit.co.uk/Itemd...TGIGSL&eq=&Tp=

The 6800 XT:
http://www.computerorbit.co.uk/Itemd...0XTSPA&eq=&Tp=

I will be getting my components from this site as it is quite loca so easy to take components back when i fry them also i live in UK rather than US so i dont think i would want to use new egg although ive heard it is good

Thanks for any help with this subject

I have the 6600GT in a new build and it is a very nice card. I don't do a lot of gaming but it has performed flawlessly so far. Mine also came with a fan that mounts on the PC case.

I have the 6600GT and in one word it would be AWESOME, or Beautiful. I can play CS, BF2, COD2, Unreal, flawlessly. But then again I'm not an expert at detecting "railing". I got mine for 145$ and it was worth it, I have yet to see one game that it won't play.

Your will be able to run most games on higher settings with either card, except FEAR. That game is a downright resource hog. I put everything on high except for lighting with my main system (X800XL)....any higher and Im playing a slideshow.

I have a 6600GT and the only thing I have to turn off in F.E.A.R (demo) is soft shadows. Everything else is as high as possible and it looks absolutely beautiful.

As for the 6800XT, I have never heard of it. However, if it is in the same league as the 6800GT then it will outperform the 6600GT.

chaosiscandytome, I would suggest purchasing that card from Newegg. Tigerdirect does not have a very good reputation. HERE is the same card at Newegg. Though, as I said above, I have never heard of the "XT" cards and I do not know how they perform.

That 128mb 6800XT is a crippled card - only 8 pipelines. If you are only going to get a 128mb card, might as well get a 6600GT and get the faster GPU and ram.

5 bucks cheaper at Newegg for the same card, chaos.
