Exclamation WARNING About New ATI 6.1 Drivers!

Hey, I know some people say that you should always uninstall your old graphics drivers before you install new ones but I fell into the habit of just installing the new ones over top of the old ones because it never seemed to make a difference. Well, I recently installed both the new ATI 6.1 drivers and the ATI Tool overclocking utility and my performance went downhill BIG TIME. I can't remember in what order I installed them (I think I installed the 6.1's first) but after doing so, I ran a few benchmarks and my scores dropped anywhere from 20%-50%! Seriously, my AquaMark3 score went from 65+K to 52K and my 3DMark03 score got cut in half and dropped from 13K to 6500! Plus my BF2 and FEAR gameplay seemed to take a hit so I knew something was wrong. So anyway, I finally decided to take the time to try and figure it out and first uninstalled ATI Tool and did a restart, then I used the ATI uninstall utility to get rid of the old drivers and did a restart, then I downloaded the most recent Driver Cleaner Pro and ran that and did a restart. Then I went to ATI's site and downloaded and installed the 6.1's again and guess what?! BINGO! My scores were back up where they belong! Just FYI!

How are the new drivers anyway? Any improvements on the Control Center?

Smile

I was never that familiar with CCC to begin with since I always avoided it much like everyone else did. I think I still prefer the old format but it's the same thing anyway, it just looks prettier now is all. And thanks Two Rails!

That's too bad. I wish they would make a Lite version or something of it. I'm still very happy with the Control Panel from version 5.11.

I was always under the impression that you should *always* uninstall the old drivers first...but now we know that doesn't work in this case...thanks for the heads up.
