Trouble w/ my Abit Radeon rx700pro 256PCIE

Anyway, I updated my BIOS to the newest version. Also, I downloaded the newest driver for the card. My card works fine under regular applications with the default driver. However, Battlefield and other games will not run without it. When I install it, though, I get all kinds unpredictable and random blobs of distortion in everything from bootup screen to games. Any suggestions?

Are the motherboard chipset drivers all installed? Is that an ATX 2.0 24 pin power supply?

Yes, it is an atx 24 pin power supply. I have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled over and over again the drivers for this chipset. I also installed the updated drivers from nVidia's site as well.

I don't understand. Everything is ok under the default drivers. I would actually leave it on the default if I could run games and felt like I was getting maximum capabilty out of it.

For now, it works for what I need it, which is primarily school. However, I eventually will be gaming on it.

The bad part about it is that I can not get my money back for it because it is a refurb. I can get another refurb but if the card is incompatable that is a waste of time.

Can anyone tell me if this is a compatibilty issue? I am at the end of rope here. Do I just count my loses and get a new and different card.

Ok, I have been trying to figure this problem out for a good two weeks. I think by the time I figure this one out I will be able to build my own video card out of wood and chewing gum like McGuiver. I have searched everything.

I am thinking because I ran Windows troubleshooter that maybe this card is incompatible with Windows XP Home Edition. Windows had a compatibility list and the only version that support are 2000 professional and XP professional.

However, all of the drivers for this card including the newest version explain that they are for 2000/XP. I am thinking even Home edition should be able to run a Windows 2000 driver right?

Does this sound like an Operating System incompatibility problem or simply a video card malfunction?

I would appreciate anyone's help!!!

You should be able to run the generic Catalyst drivers from ATI with that card, you don't have to use Abit's drivers. It's compatible with XP Home. Completely uninstall all drivers and software before installing the Catalysts.

Thank you very much for helping me.

I downloaded the drivers from ATI's site but now I cannot get rid of them. I want to try again and reinstall them. However, I do not know why they keep popping bak up. I have a driver cleaner and when I clean them they do not disappear.

I then went to the source of the files and attempted to delete them manually and ten seconds later they pop back up.

I am still getting nowhere.

Do you think maybe it is a faulty card? I have already requested an RMA, but am just testing everything before I actually send it.

The problem I had hear was simply a lack of reading. I did not fully read the directions. This mother board, the Abit KN8 SLI, has a shadow card that you need to fill the extra slot if your going to use single card technology. That was my problem. DO not make this mistake it will ruin your hardware. I recieved my RMA's back and learned a vauable lesson.
