MIDI Keyboard Not Working
I haven't used my MIDI keyboard (M-Audio Keystaion 49e) since I formatted my hard drive.
So I plug it in today, windows xp says it's installed and ready to use. I go into my production software (Reason) but it's no where to be selected... what's wrong? |

Did you install the driver for that keyboard?

Copy Protection would seem to be your problem judging by the manual I just downloaded. Pull out your manual and go through the steps that you need to unlock the software. |

Copy protection? Not sure if that could be the problem because it was just working a month ago. I put away the keyboard to free up space but need to use it again so I tried after a month of no using, and it didnt work.
How can I delete the drivers for it and delete all the registry entries for it/ |

Add/Remove in Control Panel will have all the software.
Before you go there check and see if an uninstaller is included with the software. A registry cleaner will remove the entries, I use recleaner but CC (CrapCleaner, yes that's it name) will also do the job : http://www.ccleaner.com/ I say copy protection because the software states that it will let you use it for a length a time (they didn't say how long) and then, if you don't go through the registry and response, the software will lock you out ( the company sends an activation number by e-mail). At no point do you mention that you did so. |

Why would I need to unlock copy protection? I've been using this software for like 2 years now... the keyboard with it for about 4 months and recently it just stops working. I bought the software myself 2 years ago.

Going by your first post you formatted the computer and this was the first time you've used the keyboard since then. Your current reply says you installed the software 2 years ago and haven't used the keyboard for the last 4 months. I have to know what scenario I'm looking at to give you an answer. If it's the first and you skipped the copy protection unlock when you reinstall the software then you have to go through it. If it's the second you may need to do a repair/reinstall of the software but it can't be both. Note : A format would have wiped all the software from the drive, reinstalled, XP and required you to reinstall all the software and all your data. Is that what you meant? |

See I confused myself...
I did a FORMAT, erased disc completely. But I know I havent used my keyboard for a long time now and when I used to before it was working. It just confusing now because it's happening for ALL the software I used to use my MIDI keyboard for. |

Okay, confusion happens.
This is your keyboard : http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_u...n49e-main.html This is the software package that came with it : http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=...f0690e4819e2ff This is the manual for the software : http://www.m-audio.com/images/global...ingStarted.pdf When you reinstalled the software you had a limited number of days, probably 3 to 5, during which you could use the keyboard if you hadn't gone through the copy protection steps. Since you just reinstalled and didn't use the keyboard for awhile you never saw the warning and never took the steps. Now you have to. The manual for the software, the last link, tells you how to go about it. It seems likely that you'll have to go through all the steps from the beginning, just as if your hard drive had crashed on you. |
